Vote for me!

Hey there, I didn't make this Spock poster but it is only logical that I share it since today is the day the voting for the 2012 FASCINATION awards begins.

I'd like it a lot if you could vote for my blog HERE! Thanks in advance.

Nomination, 2012 Fascination Awards

I heard a James Brown quote on the radio the other day. His advice to some young musicians was "make music (art) #2". My first thought was "oh he's lost his mind", but then I came to realize what he meant. Your art can't or shouldn't be your whole life. It reassured me as I looked back on a year in which I was (almost, mostly) too tired to do any personal work at all.

It was my first full year teaching art. 2 days full time at one school and 3 covering a six month long maternity at another. It was exhausting, confusing, inspiring, exhausting and one of the best learning experiences I have ever had, as an art teacher, a human being thing, and an artist. Today I spent the day grading and distributing all of my students artwork. The year is coming to a close. I sat in my empty classroom today with the all of the windows open listening to the soft drum of rain falling on leaves. It was a nice final moment and I had some time to reflect. Not everything went perfectly, or as planned, but in the end it was a meaningful experience with more rewards than regrets.

I await my first summer off in years and look forward to making good on some of these artistic promises I have been making to myself.

As for this nomination, I am grateful for it and hope it encourages me to update my blog more often. Voting begins on JUNE 17th so mark your calendar, I hope you'll help me win a cool plaque (I WANT IT) and a $100 dinner! You will be well paid with jewels and mutton, I promise.
